Product FAQ
Question: How can I apply
PROPSHIELD in the winter if the temperature is below 15°C ?
Answer: The only way to apply PROPSHIELD in low temperatures is to
1) Heat PROPSHIELD to a liquefied state
2) Heat the blades to a higher than normal temperature
3) Build a tent around the stern of the boat and use heaters to warm the
air inside
4) Alternatively use method two but the second coat will still need to
be applied in its liquid form

Question: Why can’t I use
method two on bronze propellers?
Answer: You can use method two but it is not quite as effective as
method one as the product is not so readily absorbed into the metal. You
may have to recoat more frequently using this method.

Question: How do I know
when my stern gear needs recoating?
Answer: There are no hard and fast rules but as a rule of thumb we
suggest that when barnacles are starting to grow on the blade then its
time to recoat. However if the boat has been idle for some time you can
find that these will wash off anyway once underway, especially at high
speed.

Question: Why can’t I get an even coat of
PROPSHIELD?
Answer: It is not important for the coating to be even but if you do
want it to be then just apply heat and wipe with a rag to redistribute
the product.

Question: How do I remove old PROPSHIELD
from my propellers?
Answer: There are several way in which to do this.

Domestic steam cleaning equipment could be used

Question: Is Prop shield dangerous to
use?
Answer: No this product is not in the least dangerous to use but we
would advise that as with any product, prolonged contact with the skin
should be avoided. Use good working practices when working with any
products. Some people are allergic to Propshield.

Question: Why is PROPSHIELD such good
value for money?
Answer: When you consider that our competitors have products for
sale at two, three or even five times as much as our own you begin to
realise how good a deal you're actually getting with Propshield
Antifouling Grease. The fact that our product gives far better results,
in our opinion and from others (see our
testimonials),
means that our product is cheaper, better and saves you a lot more money
on fuel and propeller repairs.

Question:
How long does
PROPSHIELD take to apply?
Answer: There's no definitive answer to this question as it depends
on what type of vessel you are applying Propshield to and how many
sections of stern gear needs to be coated. For example it takes thirty
minutes to three quarters of an hour to coat a 12 metre vessel's two
propellers and two prop shafts however to coat an 8 metre single
propeller vessel would take far less time. Note that the first couple of
applications will take a little longer until you get familiar with the
application process.
